Sustainable Baking

Baking is a great way to occupy your time during this lockdown! It’s fun, relaxing, and creates delicious food for the whole family. But sustainability needs to be considered even in baking. Here’s some tips for keeping your baked goods environmentally friendly!

  • Bake from scratch rather than using box mix

  • Make only what you need and reuse your leftovers

  • Try no-bake recipes or preheat your oven for less time

  • Minimise use of paper and plastic or reuse them - cake and muffin tins can be greased instead of lined and piping bags can be washed and used again

  • Look for Fair Trade cooking items e.g. Cocoa and Sugar

Cake pops: a good way to use leftover cake batter, frosting, and chocolate! Make them into balls to avoid using lollipop sticks.

Cupcakes and muffins can be made without paper cases if you grease the pan!
