Enviroschools is a New Zealand programme to develop long term, student-led sustainability within schools. They do this by encouraging their 5 guiding principles; empowered students, learning for sustainability, Maori perspectives, respect for diversity and sustainable communities.
Kristin began their Enviroschool journey in 2017 by achieving the Bronze award, and since then attained the Enviroschool Silver award at the end of 2019. Currently, we are working towards achieving Enviroschools Green Gold at the beginning of 2022. Through the Silver reflection, we identified some of our gaps and are now working to connect further with the wider community, share our sustainability story and improve our biculturalism. Over 2020 some of the initiatives conducted were installing Te Reo signage across the school, sharing a Hangi with the sustainable groups around Kristin (see article), and developing our website.
We have made great progress over the last year, but there is still room for improvement. So at the beginning of this year, we developed 7 key goals to help improve the sustainability of our school, and in turn, take us a step closer to Enviroschool Green Gold.
