Opportunities
This is a temporary hub that gives you a quick overview of how you can get involved with sustainable initiatives in our school.
What level are you interested in?
Middle School
The Middle School is a great place for any student who likes the environment and animals. Our Middle School Roots & Shoots group is available for year 7-13. This group meets every week to work on projects that help fundraise for animal protection and raise awareness about saving energy, among other things.

You also have the opportunity to join the Gardening Club, or Tree Planting Club. Gardening Club meets at lunch to work in the school‘s garden beds. Students can adopt their own beds or just help out. Tree Planting meets after school on Wednesday, and helps reforestation projects in the school’s bush.

Please contact Mrs. Wakeford for any of these opportunities. Her email is swakeford@kristin.school.nz
Year 11 & 12
The first two years in the Senior School are a really great opportunity to try out different leadership groups or start your own initiative. You get more access to a lot of service groups, like the school's Amnesty Team and UNICEF Team.

The largest environmental group is Root & Shoots, which runs various projects to help people, the environment, and animals. Within the group, there is a Zero Waste team, the animal protection group, and a tree planting group. You can email Mrs. Wakeford if you want to join.

If helping people is more your thing, we recommend joining Red Cross or UNICEF. The Red Cross club is for students who believe in the importance of lending help to those in need; we work alongside the New Zealand Red Cross organization to ensure our belief is taken into action. Each year we help with donation collections, run First Aid course, raise funds and promote the work of Red Cross globally. Issues we raise awareness about include refugees, natural disasters, health and safety and much more.

You can find details for all these clubs, and more, in the following document:

Year 13
In Year 13, you have the ability to join committees or become a Prefect. While none of these activities have sustainability focus, you might find them interesting if you like working in service groups. You can learn about any of the Committees here:
General
Activities focused on sustainability can be found everywhere in Kristin. If you still have any questions or you want help starting your own initiative, you can reach out to the Council of Sustainability (we made this website). We are a group of students who help oversee our school's sustainability vision, so we would be more than happy to support you.
