Red Cross

Red Cross has seen amazing progress, success and achievements this year through our numerous projects helping both the Kristin and wider New Zealand community.

We have had incredible success fundraising for Red Cross New Zealand – at the Summer Carnival, we raised over $600 through our Wooden Red Cross and Second Hand stall. Proceeds went towards purchasing two entire Cyclone Support packages which include meals, shelter and welfare centres. The Red Cross club also participated in the annual Service Market where we raised about $150. These funds went towards kickstarting Red Cross Auckland’s Welcome Home Project; we were able to form 15 Welcome Home packs for former refugees in New Zealand and also wrote personalised cards for them.

Our most eventful and impactful event was the Red Cross journey – a step challenge fundraiser, where participants walk 10,000 steps daily for three whole weeks. The Red Cross club have expanded this massively at Kristin School. There were over 60 participants across Middle and Senior School. We also invited Dawit Arshak, former Ethiopian refugee, to speak to the Year 9 cohort about his refugee experience. Many students and teachers commented that it was a mind-opening and incredibly interesting talk, and Kristin’s association with Dawit will continue in future years.

The Red Cross club will also be looking towards organising a colouring in competition in the Junior School to educate them about essential first aid procedures. We will also be expanding Red Cross Auckland’s Good & Ready project at Kristin School.

We are incredibly grateful to all the student and teacher support Red Cross has received this year, and we are all very excited to see the other exciting things we’ll be doing at Red Cross club.
