We are a group of year 12s who are currently in our first year of the IB diploma. When we first found out about the CAS project that all IB students are required to do, we knew that we wanted to make a change for the better. We wanted to do a service-based project, so we decided to organise an environmental talk, with internal and external speakers to discuss how we can make a change by taking environmental actions. We wanted to do this so that we could contribute to change in New Zealand and around the world. We thought that this talk might help more people understand elements of climate change and even the student lead climate strikes around New Zealand. Two of our external speakers were people who contributed to organise and plan the student climate strikes in Auckland. We had many other speeches on topics such as deforestation, Watercare in Auckland, biodiversity, waste management and coastal issues. This project was important to us as we are the generation who needs to make a change, for a better future for all. After many hours of organisation, we managed to complete the planning for the project. Everything went smoothly, except for the number of people who came, as it was too small. It proved that not enough people showed interest in saving our environment, and that needs to change. You should all make changes from today, as it is the number of people who participate which will bring change, not the amount that one person does: small things count.
