Duke of Ed Gold

In the October holidays I took part in a 7 day kayak trip, we kayaked 100ks around the hauraki gulf harbour, there were 4 kristin kids and 4 kids who went to different schools around auckland. Throughout the 7 days we learnt heaps, but from the very beginning we all had one shared goal which was to clean up the sea as we were doing our gold. In the end we collected 5 boys and heaps of rubbish as each campsite we went to we cleaned up the beaches including the beaches we stayed at for lunches or breaks. This trip for me was a very eye opening trip as i was able and lucky enough to paddle around the ocean which we seem to take for granted as we are so close to it. For me my favourite moment was when I went on a night time walk around one of the campsites and we saw a kiwi, which stopped and looked at us for about a minute. I have learnt a lot about myself and how anything is possible if you put your mind to it. - Ruby McQuaid
