What is Enviroschools?
Enviroschools is a programme throughout New Zealand that supports students in undertaking a journey to improve the overall sustainability of their school. The Enviroschool programme is action-based and designed to empower students.
There are 3 qualifications within the Enviroschool programme; bronze, silver and green gold, each one another step within the Enviroschool journey. However, after achieving green gold schools must still be evaluated every 3 years to ensure that progress is still being made and that the school still upholds that status.
Enviroschools abide by 5 guiding principles; empowered students, Maori perspectives, learning for sustainability, respecting diversity and sustainable communities. These principles guide students in improving their school's sustainability as a whole which is necessary to progress through the Enviroschool qualifications.
