Introducing WeCompost @ Kristin

Updated: May 7, 2021

We Compost is Auckland‘s leading compost collection service, and it is now being trialed at Kristin School.

This could streamline waste reduction efforts since compostable items make up 38% of our school’s waste according to the 2019 student waste audit.

You can find these bins near the wellness center and at your favorite school events. Here is a guide on how you can use the bins properly:

Yes:

  • Fruits & vegetables

  • Plants & flowers

  • Approved compostable packaging

  • Meat, fish & dairy

  • Shells & bones

  • Eggshells, nutshells (and their paper cartons)

  • Pasta & rice

  • Breads & grains

  • Teabags, coffee grinds & filters

  • Uncoated paper plates & napkins

NO:

  • Polystyrene or plastic wrap

  • Plastic wrap

  • Condiment packaging

We hope to continue to expand the use of We Compost bins in the school, to help meet our yearly target of 10% waste reduction. Please use the bins and let us know what you think :)
